Combined transport is a special form of intermodal freight transport in which loading units such as containers or swap bodies or truck semi-trailers are transported over longer distances by rail or waterway. The truck is only used for a shorter distance on the road to transport the containers and swap bodies to the transshipment terminal for rail or inland vessel transport, or to collect and deliver them at the unloading location.
